How Much is a Cardboard Baler?

28th May 2024

When evaluating whether a cardboard baler is a good investment, many businesses undertake a cost-benefit analysis. During this decision-making process, a business can measure the benefits of buying or renting a baler minus the costs associated with both acquiring and maintaining it. Before you begin researching the options, it’s important to pinpoint what type of machine you’d like to ensure that you do not miss out on a more cost-effective option which could lead to a faster payback on your investment.

Factors Affecting the Cost

Size and Capacity

Vertical waste balers are available in a range of different sizes. It’s important to select the most appropriate size of baler for both the volume and size of cardboard box that you want to compact. A smaller baler may be cheaper in terms of financial outlay, but will be less efficient to use if you cannot place a box inside the chamber whole.

Type of Baler

Vertical Balers can be powered by electrics or compressed air. If you are considering using electric to power your baler, you need to ensure that you have the right type of socket available. In general, smaller balers can run from a 13amp socket but larger machines may need 3-phase power. Air-powered balers are often cheaper than the hydraulic equivalent but will need either a compressor or an airline to be installed to power them.

Features

Balers featuring the latest technology are likely to be more expensive to both acquire and maintain. Whilst features such as an electronic bale counters and weighers may be nice to have, if they are not essential to your business it’s likely that you can save money by considering a more basic no-frills option.

Used Balers vs New Balers

Used Balers are a great option for businesses looking to purchase a baler without going over budget, as well as offering a much quicker return on investment. Refurbished used balers sold with a warranty can give your business the benefit of a cheaper purchase price with additional reassurance of back-up if something goes wrong. Never buy a used baler without a manual as it contains important information about both using and maintaining your machine.

Renting a Baler vs Buying a Baler

Pros of renting

•    Some rental companies such as QCR, include free delivery, servicing and training as part of their rental agreements
•    Much lower initial cost than purchasing
•    Some rental providers allow you to upgrade your equipment during the rental period without needing to wait for the agreement to end

Cons of renting

•    Eventually the rental costs may surpass the initial price of the baler
•    You are committed for a set period of time

Rental Plans

Our cardboard balers are available to rent starting at just £14.91 per week excluding VAT. This price includes delivery, installation, ongoing operator training as well as routine servicing by a Safe Contractor accredited QCR Equipment Engineer. Our baler rental terms are available on 2, 3, 4 or 5 year contracts but we’re happy to offer shorter or longer agreements where possible. Once your contract begins, your price remains the same throughout the duration of your contract.

Final Considerations When Purchasing a Cardboard Baler

For companies with a large volume of waste cardboard, the cost of the baler can be offset by the revenue generated by selling your baled cardboard to a Recycler. For companies with smaller output, the cost of the baler can be offset by either reducing the number commercial cardboard recycling bins at their site or the frequency of collections.

You must also factor in the cost of the consumables needed for your baler to work. Baler banding or wires will need to be purchased to bind your cardboard together. It’s important to ensure you buy the right type of consumables for your baler.
