Why do businesses in Leeds use a baler?
- For Compliance: The Leeds Waste Strategy encourages all businesses in the city to reduce the volume of waste they produce. Baling cardboard can reduce waste up to 85% making it a great way for organisations to conform with the main aim of the scheme.
- Waste Segregation: As part of the Simplier Recycling rules from 31st March 2025, businesses must be segregating recyclable materials (eg cardboard) from general waste. Using a baler provides businesses with tangible evidence that cardboard waste is segregated and secured with a bale at their premises.
- For Cheaper Commercial Waste Collections: It's more efficient to collect and transport baled cardboard which is why registered local waste carriers offer discounted or free collections of baled material.
- To Showcase Their Commitment to Sustainability: A growing number of businesses are implementing waste reduction intiatives such as baling in response to growing public pressure for businesses to be more sustainable. Using a baler allows businesses to show stakeholders exactly how cardboard waste is prepared for recycling.
- For Space Optimisation: Commercial property in the city is expensive which is why businesses are using balers to reduce the amount of workspace dedicated to the storage of commercial waste prior to collection.
FAQ's
