Waste solutions for supply & logistics businesses
Many businesses within the supply & logistics sector are using QCR for a variety of reasons. The following case studies show the different needs of businesses within this large sector.
Case Study 1: QCR install mill size baler at a hardware distribution company
One of the UK's leading distributors of hardware to the replacement window and door industry saved themselves thousands per annum with QCR’s help. Established since 1980, they employ 48 at their East Midlands site. They had a general waste skip which was emptied on a monthly basis costing £500 per month. They already had one of our QCR 509 balers which they used for baling cardboard and a QCR 205 baler for their plastics. Their success meant they had increasing cardboard waste and had outgrown the 509 baler which resulted in additional cardboard being placed into the skip.
Solution
Following a site survey, QCR advised them that with the amount of cardboard waste they were now generating they could upgrade their baler for free to a QCR V50 mill size baler. This would also earn them a monthly rebate figure.
Savings
With the extra cardboard now removed from general waste the skip will now only be emptied twice a year. Introducing the QCR V50 mill size cardboard baler will save them around £5000 per year.
QCR Customer testimonial:
"We used to send 80% of the cardboard waste to the general waste skip. We now recycle 100% of the cardboard waste generated significantly reducing the amount of card we send to land fill which in turn has dramatically reduced our general waste costs. We are able to store the cardboard and plastic bales which are collected by a local recycler. Last month we received a rebate £400 for our recyclable material." Dave Harris, Warehouse Shift Manager.

Case Study 2: Courier service making big savings with QCR Balers
This courier company base their values on trust and cost effectiveness. They specialise in same day courier services, with a large fleet of small vans they pride themselves on their rapid response to customer requirements. All the waste they generated use to go into a large 14 yard skip which was emptied at least twice a week and cost £400 per lift. After researching other waste options their Warehouse Manager, invited QCR to the site to carry out a free site survey.
Solution
QCR’s Area Sales Manager explained to them that by segmenting their cardboard waste and compactinging it with a cardboard baler they could reduce their general waste amount and costs by 66%. He arranged for a free trial of a QCR 306 baler to prove the solution would work. The trial was a success and they even upgraded to the large QCR 509 baler.
Savings
Removing the cardboard, the main bulk of the waste, from the skip meant they could reduce their skip lifts from 2 per week to just 2 a month, saving £3520. The area sales manager arranges free collections of the bales with a local recycler who pay them £50-£60 per tonne for their cardboard.
QCR Customer testimonial:
“QCR’s solution has been a great cost saving to our company, and when the Area Sales Manager visits to check the solution it is always benefiting our growing business. If we ever have any ad-hoc recycling materials to be collected, I call him and he always sorts a recycler for me. Happy to recommend". Warehouse Manager.

Case Study 3: Safety suppliers generate £6,000 worth of revenue with QCR’s help
The suppliers offer a comprehensive range of protective workwear, hygiene supplies and health & safety equipment. Based in the West Midlands they operate from a 55,000ft² national distribution centre. The company generates a lot of cardboard and plastic waste which required 2 x 1100 litre bins emptied once a week and a 14 yard skip emptied 3 times a week. Their Warehouse Manager, called us to the site to carry out a free site survey.
QCR's Solution
After surveying, QCr's Waste Expert proposed they implement a plastic waste collection system using 8 bag stands which stand at the end of the warehouse isles. A QCR 509 baler has been installed and is now used to bale cardboard and the plastic collected in the bag stands.
Revenue generated
We have organised the ongoing free collections and sale of plastic and cardboard bales to a local recycler which in just a short period has generated £6000 worth of revenue.
Customer testimonial:
“We now separate our plastic waste using 8 collection stands and both plastic and cardboard is baled using the 509 baler. The machine is user friendly and helps to reduce fire risk by keeping waste in the warehouse to a minimum. We have removed the bins and initially reduced the collection of the skip to twice a week; this has since been reduced to once a week. In the future we will also look to reduce the size of the remaining skip. The solution has helped reduce running costs by around £1,000/month. We have recycled 48 tonnes of cardboard and 5 tonnes of clear plastic generating a rebate of approximately £2,500” - Safety Supplier, Warehouse Manager

Marine equipment suppliers cut costs with QCR Can Compactor
This company is a supplier of marine equipment and services to the commercial marine, naval, offshore oil and gas and renewable energy industries. The site generated a lot of paint cans and marine associated product which is classified as hazardous waste. Hazardous waste collections are very expensive so they wanted a solution to minimise this waste cost.
Solution
Following a site survey QCR's Regional Sales Manager for the South West recommended the
Customer testimonial:
The manager at the site told our team “The QCR 30HDXL Can Crusher has exceeded our expectations – simple and easy to use it has substantially reduced our waste costs”
QCR Waste Expert opinion:
“The problem with cans and drums is that essentially you have to pay to dispose of air. Crushing waste cans at the source means that you remove this ‘air’ and only pay for the actual cans to be disposed of”
